
As an association of diverse businesses, the Chamber looks to the Legislative / Government Committee to consider governmental issues on a local and national level. This group evaluates various issues, considers their overall impact and putlines possible courses of action for the Board of Directors to take. Where necessary, members may be called upon to attend various governmental meetings and sessions. Representatives regularly attend the local city council meeting. Among topics of discussion are: security, beach cleaning, roads, city zoning & planning and education. This Committee works to keep the members of the Chamber informed and educated on the issues facing the business community.
The Education Committee was founded to serve as the Chamber’s outreach vehicle to the future of the area: the children This Committee has met with the Superintendent of the Garabito School system and all of the public schools in the Garabito district to assess the needs of those individual schools. This Committee also keep in contact with existing members, making the Chamber office aware of school needs and concerns. Every year, this committee holds an annual fundraiser to raise monies for uniforms for those children on the needy list in the Garabito area. Generally, the schools are in need of the following: (Notebooks, pens, crayons & pencils, handwriting notebooks; Materials for lesson plans in Spanish & English; Spanish / English dictionaries; Computer Technician to help fix computers; Repair Man to help fix things; Food; and Musical Instruments) If you recognize the importance of education and enjoy helping in the school system, please contact the Chamber at 2643-2853.
This Committee was founded to serve as the Chamber's focus on businesses in the community, and seeking new members for the Chamber. The Membership Committee keeps in contact with existing members and makes the Chamber office aware of members' needs and concerns. Additionally, the Committee meets regularly to review the accounts of the Chamber and make a report of its findings to the Board of Directors. The committee is further responsible for the development of the annual budget and presentation to the Board of Directors. The Committee shall also take all necessary steps to secure funding and donations. This committee will also oversee any other fund-raising efforts as directed and deemed necessary by the Board of Directors. This Committee was founded specifically to serve as the Chamber’s effort to keep our beaches clean. This effort includes a beach cleaning crew and machines specifically designed to maintain beachfront. The Chamber works together with the local municipal government in these efforts. Additionally, the Chamber coordinates several annual beach cleaning efforts and educational programs with the local schools to help reinforce the importance of taking care of the environment.
